CHANDLER x SNEAK PEEK MEMPHIS

Last week I went up to Memphis to take care of sweetheart account, Sneak Peak. I dropped off the set of decks Kevin had me do for the opening (some are pictured) next weekend. I also worked with Los the Scholar on the mural in the front room. The doors open at 11 this Saturday, anyone in the area should come check it out the shop is looking MEAN AS!

GRAVIS HUNTSVILLE: SOUTHSIDE BOOTLEG!

This week I dropped off the bootleg Gravis display at Southside’s new ‘Boutique’ location on Memorial Parkway. I left it with ‘pro in residence’ Jo-bo and the other Southside lost boys Monday, and they informed me that it was RAD! They also wanted to know where they could get the Gravis Rip Grip that was on each display shelf. I wanted to tell them but… I’d have had to kill them.

GRAVISBLASTERS II

The second round of audio Burton promo went out last week. Gravis and Analog walkmans went to Cheapskates in Memphis where Ron, the owner is a cassette connoisseur as well as proprietor of a shop mentioned in the latest issue of VAPORS! The micro box radio went up to Franklin run by Jesse and Don fightin’ the good fight in ‘Nash Vegas.’

SOUTHEAST SKATE SHOW

Last month we went to the South East Skate show for the first time. Cane Faircloth and I manned the Gravis/Analog table and met with shops from all over the region. We talked shop and I got my ass handed to me at the local bowling alley after the event. But while the show was going on I did wall hanging P.O.P. on the spot. Cane hooked me up with the materials, and I did some live art to the tunes of TRZA. The second day I did a piece with all the logos of the companies represented (not pictured) and we got some of the other reps to sign it. It was the first time I'd met Cane and was thouroughly impressed with his attitude and skills. I look forward to the next time I'll work with him in person. Maybe at the Surf Expo

REP IT UP: MEMPHIS

The other day I went up to Memphis to visit on Cheapskates and Sneak Peek stopping to snap pics at the haunted landscape of 72East. Cheapskates has been around for over twenty years and has had a heavy hand in southern skate. We had a larf looking at the new shoes and then I got a look into the treasure cave of memphis skating.I got a gander at a mammoth collection of skate VHS as well as some dirty board styles a la 'summer of '92.'
Later in the day I went to see Kevin at Sneak Peek. Kevin is putting together a mean set up for the first real Sneaker boutique in Memphis. We talked product and Nintendo and I was totally amped about his set up. I expect great things and future collaborations. Kevin has a vision and I'm excited to be a part of it!

GRAVIS HUNTSVILLE: SK8 JAM +

All summer Southside Skate Shop's old ghost owner Richie and his beautiful wife Troy have been hosting Regional Sk8 jams after hours in the old skating rink. Teams from Faith in Birmingham, kids from Atlanta, and all over the Mythic South have come in to collab under the neon and hear the soothing sounds of the local music scene! Afterwards there was usually a 'Snake Safari' to the local ditches and the myhtic skate beasts let Toby and I come along for pics!

CHANDLER x DANIEL SONG

This week I met up with artist Daniel Song in his northside space Birmingham. We did a couple of pieces and made plans for a mythic/biblical workshop and show later in the Fall.

GRAVIS BIRMINGHAM : IRON VALLEY SESSION

On Wednesday we went down to the "Iron Valley" and met up with the team from Faith Skate Supply. Peter, the local shop keep, hooked us up with Kraig, Riley and Demon Dan who were fresh off of shooting the most recent Faith DVD. Right off the bat we met Demon out at a mythic drop behind a castle for sale. We watched in awe as he dropped out of the sky, and continue to debate over whether the drop was ten or twelve feet. Next we hooked up with Kraig out at the Vulcan trail where some Southern ingenuity had crafted a gnarly quarter and we got some great shots at the foot of the radio station. Other spots included a bum gap, the coliseum ledges and finally Sloss Furnace, a haunted steel factory. Keep posted for more Faith updates as they are moving to a new location and are hosting the Tony Hawk Huck jam later this month.

GRAVIS NASHVILLE: ’CONCRETE WARREN’

Last Thursday 'SF' led me up to Franklin TN where we met up with his lady Lexi, she had arranged for us to rendezvous with Dylan, a recovering nuclear fallout victim (ankle blast) and our local urban curb servant Ian. We went to lunch and talked about all the moves being made at Gravis and they filled me in on the local Franklin/Nashville scene. We then set out to Concrete wave country a mythic transition park where we met up with Kyle a local carve king and watched as Dylan unloaded explosive bail after bail before landing the 8foot rooftop in the middle of the park. Then we wandered through Nashville to 6th Ave, the local shop and indoor park, where I caught up with Randy, a skate safari guide who had taken DC and Etnies through the local street spots. He assured me that he would do the same for Gravis the next time we were in town. We wrapped up at Jim Warren the plaza-esque park in Franklin where the boys threw it down and we said goodbye and agreed on a sequel

GRAVIS HUNTSVILLE : BREAKFAST SESSION

Last Wednesday my photographer friend Toby and I went out, in typical Alabama fashion, before breakfast with some local kids to the park in Huntsville. We had David Martin a regional champ from Decatur, 'Pig' a transition skater who was actually born without sweat glands and 'street fighter' who was on loan from the Nashville scene. We met up with Madison Master Chase and dug in for the morning. The idea behind being out before breakfast is to escape the heat which passes the high 90's by about 10:30. Other than worrying about Pig dying of heat stroke it was a very casual session and we had alot of fun. David, who'd gotten a hold of som Gravis 'Windsor's' the day before, spent the whole morning laying down mean moves and raving about his new shoes! It inspired the locals on hand to ask lots of questions, gossip about Saari and get excited about the possibility of real live pairs in local shops. Pig, Chase and 'SF also cut a hole in the concrete and the proof is in the pics.
